CALL TO WORSHIP – Sandy Barrow, Elder
One: O great God, who are you?
All: O great God, where are you?
One: O great God, show yourself to us in this time and in this place.
All: We are here listening to you.
One: We are here because we want to know you more fully.
All: Let us listen and sing and pray together.
One: Let us worship God!
CALL TO CONFESSION Mimi Sutherland, Ruling Elder
If we claim to be sinless, we are self-deceived and strangers to the truth. If we confess our sins, God is just and may be trusted to forgive our sins and cleanse us from every kind of wrong. Let us admit our sin before God.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, we confess we have not been obedient to your will for us. We have sought justice for ourselves but neglected justice for others. We have insisted on our rights, but have not lived rightly in our relationships. We have desired mercy for our sins, but have not offered mercy to those who have sinned against us. By the power of your holy spirit, free us from the prison of our disobedience. Help us to love as you have loved us that our lives may testify to your abounding grace. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone in Christ is of the new creation; Old things have passed away, all things are new. Friends: Believe the good news of the Gospel.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven and restored to new life.

THE RESPONSE
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE – Christian and Susan Mazzola, Ruling Elder
In peace, let us pray to the Lord, saying:
Loving God hear our prayer.
For the world and for all its leaders,
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Uphold the leaders of governments for the work of peace and the betterment and health of the whole world. We especially pray for the leaders of our country; that they listen to right and sound advice and that you provoke their hearts to justice tempered with mercy, and that you lead them to do what is right in upholding the common good.
For children,
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Defend our children from danger, fill their lives with loving care, and help us to teach them that they are your beloved children and there is nothing they can do to change that unconditional love.
For the sick and those in distress,
Loving God, hear our prayer.
Heal those who are sick with the COVID virus and keep others safe from it.
Help people to live in ways that prevent them from spreading it to the community and world. Be with your children who are lonely and feeling hopeless at this time and enable those who are able to support them in their need.
We pray all this in Christ’s name who taught us also, when we prayed to pray in this manner:
THE LORD’S PRAYER
For the Lord’s Prayer we appreciate the diverse traditions and backgrounds that make up the Riviera family of faith, and encourage you to use whatever words for this prayer are meaningful for you.
Our Creator, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
